Mr. LEUNG Wing-mo, spokesperson of the Hong Kong Meteorological Society, Dr. CHENG Cho-ming, former chairman of the Hong Kong Meteorological Society, and Dr. CHONG Sze-ning, honorary treasurer of the Hong Kong Meteorological Society, delivered a talk titled Braving the Elements — The Trials and Triumphs of Weather Forecasters and engaged in a dialogue to share experiences at the Hong Kong Central Library on 14 December 2025.

Career talk on earth science

本次講座旨在提供與地質學、氣象學、行星科學等相關領域的學習進修途徑與職涯發展機會,協助學員培養對地球科學領域相關的興趣。

本講座由香港天文台、土木工程拓展署土力工程處、香港大學地球科學系、香港地質學會、香港氣象學會、倫敦地質學會香港分部、香港直接資助計劃學校議會及香港輔導教師協會聯合主辦。

Sponsored the Ho Koon Weather Competition 2025

由嗇色園主辦可觀自然教育中心暨天文館、香港天文台主辦,香港氣象學會及社區天氣資訊網絡協辦的「天氣觀測專題探究比賽 2025 —— 社區微氣候觀測」配合了優質教育基金「電子學習配套計劃」之《地理電子學習教材套:氣候變化》2.0 版項目,是一項全港性的天氣觀測專題探究比賽。該活動目的在於配合中學文憑課程,旨在提升學生對氣象觀測的認識及對氣候變化議題的關注度,並藉專題探究活動提升學生的創新思維及實地考察技巧。

Heywood Young Scientists Award

There were four nominations for the Heywood Young Scientists Award (R-prize). Our heartfelt thanks to Prof Wen ZHOU, Dr Cho-ming CHENG and Mr Wai-po TSE for serving in the Award Panel. All three panelists agreed to award the prize to the nominated candidate.

The award goes to Mr XI Dazhi from The University of Hong Kong. His research topic is on “Shifts of future tropical cyclone genesis date in north atlantic and north pacific basins: an ensemble modeling investigation” published on Climate and Atmospheric Science.

Zhu Kezhen Prize

There were two nominations for the Zhu Kezhen Prize. ​Our heartfelt thanks to Prof Francis Chi-Yung TAM, Dr Nicky Yun-fat LAM and Mr Wai-Soen CHAN for serving in the Award Panel. ​

The award goes to Ms YU Ge from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Her research topic is on “Exploring the aerosol activation properties in coastal shallow convection using cloud- and particle-resolving models” published on Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics.
