
《颱風解密:你也可以做天氣達人!》
The Society published its second popular science book on tropical cyclones in 2021.
香港氣象學會在2021年出版了第二本科普讀物《颱風解密:你也可以做天氣達人!》。

本書是香港天文台前台長岑智明擔任主編,聯同香港氣象學會編撰,以豐富的氣象圖及插圖,讓我們認識颱風的形成、消散,以及引起的風暴潮及破壞力,以科學化的角度解釋颱風過門而不入及詭異路徑的因素,並借鑑歷年風災紀錄,從個人保護環境做起,應對全球氣候變化、愛護地球。

The talk was well-received with a full house. The book is on sale in bookstores in town with 1,300 copies having been sold as of the end of October 2022.

The Society set up an online quiz game on meteorology in April 2022.

The Society served as a supporting organization of 「Master Code編程大賽2021 : AI構想 · 智健康生活」co-organized by HKEdCity and Microsoft. Award ceremony in June 2022.


A Popular Science Talk for Teens with the title “Development History of Weather Radar in Hong Kong and its Applications” was organized on 3 December 2022 in collaboration with the Hong Kong Central Library. Dr David LAM and Dr SN CHONG of the Hong Kong Observatory served as speakers. There were a total of 56 participants.

Heywood Young Scientists Award
There were four nominations for the Heywood Young Scientists Award (R-Prize). Our heartfelt thanks to Dr LIU Chun Ho, Dr George LIU and Dr Francis TAM for serving in the Award Panel.
The award goes to Dr SHI Xiaoming of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Topic of his paper is “Modulation of the Bifurcation in Radiative-Convective Equilibrium by Gray-Zone Cloud and Turbulence Parameterizations”, published in Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems. Congratulations to Dr Shi!

Zhu Kezhen Prize
There were four nominations for the Zhu Kezhen Prize. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr ZHOU Wen, Dr LI Ping Wah and Dr LEE Yiu Fai for serving in the Award Panel.
The award goes to Ms WANG Yueya of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Topic of her paper is “Deep Learning Augmented Data Assimilation: Reconstructing Missing Information With Convolutional Autoencoders”, published in Monthly Weather Review. Congratulations to Ms Wang!
